I didn't think she was but according to the thinking of some every athlete at GC has to be from somewhere else!

From searching the VHSL Record Book, looks like Sheet's title is the 10th singles championship for LPD players.

And surely I was thinking that she was another one of those Germans you guys imported to win state. We are trying the TS thing in basketball, and bringing in Macedonians, but maybe that is a mistake, since Germans seem to do better (didn't RC load up with Germans to win state in v-ball).

Sheets and Musick also won in the doubles yesterday.

But the Macedonian you got was a hand me down from TS after they found out Pance was better. I think the Cove had one ES who was the German girl. GC had an ES who played tennis a couple years back also. There's a difference between the occasional one and searching out and bringing one or so in every year.

I find it quite funny that other fans in the LPD will constantly point fingers at GC because of out of county students while Lee County, according to their own admissions, have nearly 700 out of county students.

    [ QUOTE ]
Franks said the intent is to go beyond the fiscal considerations immediately apparent in the tuition issue, and relate it to the true school facilities needs of Wise County.

"My request was to have the (schools) administration evaluate each community to see what effect that would have on each community if we charge tuition, and what the effect would be if (the non-resident students) go back to their home county. And then we could evaluate our facilities needs because of that," he said.

He said 48 percent of St. Paul High School - current student population a little over 200 - reside in a neighboring county, and they are "being educated at the expense of Wise County taxpayers to the tune of $744,000 per year."

Franks said the next largest center of non-resident students is Big Stone Gap/Appalachia, with 140 attending Big Stone Gap schools.

"I don't think we can continue to ignore it. We have to know what effect it's having. If a school is being kept open by a false economy, we should face up to that and decide whether we should continue to accept it," Franks said. "Yes, we would be losing state funds. But we wouldn't need state funds if we're paying to educate those kids for free in facilities kept open for their benefit. (Non-residents) are such a large percentage of the total budget. Sixteen percent goes to educating non-resident students, and 10 percent of our student population is non-resident that we're playing Santa Claus to."

School board member Ann Gregory of St. Paul has long maintained that non-resident students are a plus for St. Paul and no detriment, financially or otherwise.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
Another aspect of the CEPI report was disclosure of 440 out-of-county students attending Wise County schools at an estimated subsidy of Wise County taxpayers of $1.3 million annually.

Since then the school division took another look and has reported some 220 more non-resident students above the 440 CEPI located, for a total annual non-resident cost to Wise County taxpayers of $2 million.
